100 Men Reading
The magic of reading comes alive for pre-schoolers when they hear stories read by the army of dedicated volunteers with 100 Men Reading.
This acclaimed literacy program — which won a national Points of Light Award during President George H. W. Bush's administration — is supported by a corps of African-American men who believe in the mantra "Each one, teach one." These positive role models read aloud to youngsters and donate books during visits to day care and Head Start classrooms.
What a wonderful way to initiate children in the joys of reading, establish multicultural libraries in pre-school settings and increase the involvement of African-American men in early childhood development!
